Dear Members of the Europea Blind Union, We want to rejuvenate EBU and the Boards of its member organisations and to increase the involvement of young blind and partially sighted people within organisations at national and European level by providing information and training. With financial support from the European Commission, EBU is now launching a call to all EBU member associations to nominate young, active and committed blind and partially sighted persons aged 18 – 30 who will receive specific training to develop their leadership skills. The training will be given in English. All EBU member associations are invited to appoint a young blind or partially sighted person who is already, or will become, a young leader within the national association and who will participate in 3 or maore online training sessions over 3 years until 2021 to improve, amongst other things, her/his leadership skills, project planning, media relations, etc. National associations are expected to support (mentoring, technical assistance) the young leader they indicated. As EBU also wants to increase the participation of young blind and partially-sighted persons in its own decision-making process, an EByouth Team will be set up, consisting of 4 young European-level leaders ready to be involved and able to give their contribution to EBU’s work at Board level. Young national leaders can also be nominated to become members of the EByouth Team who will participate in a more in-depth training made up of 2 face-to-face training courses and the aforementioned 3 or more online training sessions over 3 years until 2021 to enable them to develop their knowledge about EBU’s work and European policy issues. In addition, EByouth Team members will attend one EBU Board meeting. As regards the face-to-face training and the Board meeting, EBU will cover subsistence and accommodation costs for each EByouth Team member and her/his guide (up to 150 EUR per person and per day). As the training sessions will be in English, a good knowledge of this language is a fundamental pre-requisite for national leaders/EByouth Team members. To sum up: 1) all national associations are invited to appoint a young person who is already, or will become, a young leader within their national association and who will develop her/his leadership skills 2) any national leader can also be nominated as a member of the EByouth Team, whose selected members will participate in in-depth training to be enabled to give her/his contribution to EBU’s work at Board level.     You can . When filling in the application form, it is very important to clearly indicate whether a person is being appointed national leader only or she/he is also nominated as a member of the EByouth Team. The deadline to send back the application form is 31 August 2018. The EByouth Team Selection Advisory Panel will evaluate the nominations received and interview nominees in September. Then, the Selection Advisory Panel will formulate recommendations to the Board, who will choose the EByouth Team members at its meeting in October 2018.
